Clinical trials …… A patient perspective

This website complements a video offering the views of a range of patients who have engaged effectively in clinical trials.

Given the importance of such trials to improving health and wellbeing through developing treatments, be they drug or non-drug, we and our member charities believe it is important that patients and their families should have access to a range of resources which explain how trials work.

One of the reasons clinical trials are started is to find out if a product or medicine works and how well it works. A trial could show that it is no better than what is currently being used and sometimes a trial is stopped. Only properly designed trials can resolve this uncertainty. We hope that resources such as these will help you make the decision to participate in a trial.

The website includes case studies of the people in the video, as well as information about accessing all trials currently registered in the UK and more information about how to engage fully in them.
Another resource that you might wish to consult for an even wider range of patient experience is http://www.healthtalkonline.org/medical_research/
Additional information is also available on our own websites.

We are committed to clinical research in its widest sense in the UK and hope you find these resources helpful.
